How secure are my greeting cards?

Your greeting cards are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to any cloud service. The app doesn't require an internet connection to function, ensuring complete privacy of your personal memories.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

When you uninstall the app, all stored greeting card images and associated data will be removed from your device, and lost if you do not have a backup. Before uninstalling, we recommend backing up your data using the Export feature in Settings. This will create a single backup file (a zip file with a .gug extension) containing all of your card images and data, and can be imported when you reinstall the app.

Can I transfer my cards to a new device?

Currently, you'll need to manually transfer your greeting card images to your new device. You can do this by using the export feature, moving the export file created to the new device, then importing. This even works moving between android and ios devices. A future subscription version of Guarded Greetings will support cloud storage.

Troubleshooting Tips

Glare or Reflections

  • Ensure good side lighting when capturing cards. Usually light from above will cause a glare
  • If your card is light in color, lay it on a solid dark background to make edge detection easier.
  • If your card is dark in color, lay it on a solid light background to make edge detection easier.
  • Ensure the card is as flat as possible and has no bends.
  • After capturing an image, adjust the corners and sides to ensure none of the background is showing, and only the card is inside the edges. It's okay to remove a little of the card edges assuming nothing important is clipped.

Camera Issues

  • Ensure the app has permission to access your camera
  • Clean your camera lens
  • Restart the app if camera preview is black

Storage Issues

  • Check available storage space on your device
  • Clear app cache if the app is running slowly
  • Ensure your device has enough free space (recommend 1GB minimum)
